This little Piggy...

I hate doing this, especially after such a really good selection of comments.

Our irrepresible little Evil Death That Stalks The Night hunter-cat, Piggy, was hit by a car and killed tonight. The driver didn't stop. But a lovely neighbour heard the thump and brought her body to us.

Piggy was my 'bride's present to the groom' along with her sister, Pippi. She was utterly vibrant, every day of her life.

Here's Piggy with her sister on 'Daddy's' lap, soon after we took them home from the rescue centre. Piggy's the one eyeballing the camera.

Sometimes life seems to want to give you a big kicking, you know?

((((((((((((ANNA)))))))). Oh honey, I am so, so sorry. Only a fellow cat lover can understand the depth of your pain. I lost my Chaos the same way not long ago and my heart goes out to you. She was my muse, and a part of me went with her.

Your Piggy was truly beautiful. May she live forever braided into the fabric of your memories.

And damn, sometimes you just gotta kick back at life.

Anna, you don't know me, but I go to Kate Hardy's blog and followed a link she had for someone who needed a hug. I have cats (the emphasis on the plural) and just had to comment. I'm so sorry for your loss. I too lost a cat to a car many years ago and still feel that ache. People just don't seem to understand the pain we can feel at the loss of a pet - but they don't understand that they are more than pets, they're family - and in some ways our children. I can tell you that the pain will lesson, but that doesn't really help, does it? If you don't mind a hug from a stranger then here it is HUGS!

Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear about Piggy. You must be heartbroken. I've been in your place and I know what it's like. You can only console yourself that you gave her the loveliest possible life while she was with you.

Love

Wendy

I thought of you, Loreth, when it happened. Piggy wasn't a computer cat, but I remember how much you missed your Chaos.

I have that pride, Michelle! We do go all out to give our cats the best in life. We've had that "should we have kept her in?" conversation, but Piggy lived for being outside, she adored it. She'd even sit on the wet grass in the rain, her eyes narrowed to slits, exuding deep contentment.

Absent cats, eh Biddy? :-)

Actually, Kate, we've been doing a lot of that. We sat up late the night it happened and talked about how 100% alive she was when she was with us. Husband said, "I can't rememeber a single day when she was fed up or down - she was always joyful."

Thanks, Mary - pet lovers of all sorts connect when this happens, don't they?

Yeah, it's awful Tess. But we're aware it could have been worse. The people who found her said she was alive when they ran over, but they literally turned round, turned back, and she was gone. I'm so, so grateful for that. We know, too, that it was a head injury, and I know that she'd have had a huge pump of adrenaline when it happened, and she wouldnt' have felt a thing.

Hey Vicky. Good to see you. Husband is appreciating all these third-party hugs. It's really his cat, you see.

Thanks Dee, and thanks for the chat, too.

Ah, Mel, I'm glad you're here. (((hugs))) Wish you could have met her.

Thanks Nell.

Thank you, Lis - I appreciate the hugs.

Eve, I'll take hugs from strangers! :-) I'm sorry about your cat - and I know what you mean about the ache lasting!

Yes, Wendy, she had a ball! Thank you.

And thank you, everyone. I've really felt hugged and surrounded by well-wishes, and I really appreciate that.

Now I have to edit Piggy out of the sidebar. UGH. *thunk*.

NOOOOOOOO! Oh, Anna. I am so sorry. I'm just now seeing this and, crap, CRAP! My heart just broke for you and your husband and poor Piggy. As one who lost a beloved cat of 19 years this summer, I feel your pain.

Hugs! Beth
